So when we investigate, it becomes clear that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not make any amendments or changes to the traditions of the Abrahamic religion, but he did make some additions. Among these, I will give two examples of notable additions.
Fasting in Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr
When the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) made it obligatory on people to fast for the entire month, it was as if fasting for the entire month became a great act of worship. Although people can fast at any time as an optional fast, there is special attention during the month of Ramadan. Mosques are filled, Muslims welcome them, and all preparations are made.
When a person fasts for the entire month and undergoes a great act of worship, which is an expression of a relationship of obedience to Allaah, Keeping these three things in mind, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) established the festival of Eid al-Fitr.
Hajj, Umrah and Eid al-Adha
Our relationship with Allah is based on three pillars: worship, obedience, and sacrifice of life and property. Acts of worship include Umrah and Hajj.
Hajj is a major act of worship that involves five days of hard work and is performed on specific days. For those who cannot bear the hard work of Hajj, a short act of worship called Umrah was prescribed.
After the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), when Islam spread throughout the world, it became difficult to come for Hajj from everywhere. In this too, like Hajj, Takbirs are raised, two rak’ahs of prayer are offered, a sermon is delivered, and a sacrifice is made.
Message of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha
Eid al-Fitr is celebrated after the resumption of fasting for the entire month of Ramadan. Eid al-Adha is a universal expression of the worship of sacrifice, as Hajj and Umrah are not possible for everyone. Sacrifice is a symbolic form of the rituals of Hajj and Umrah that have been made obligatory for Muslims all over the world.
