WCL Second Semi-Final:
Peace be upon you, friends.
I’m currently in Birmingham, and the second semi-final of the WCL has taken place.
South Africa defeated Australia by just one run.
It was a very close match, and the news is that the final of the WCL will be between Pakistan and South Africa.
I had already predicted that the final would be between these two teams, as they have played strongly throughout the tournament.
South Africa vs Pakistan: A Rematch
South Africa had previously played a match against Pakistan in which they lost.
But there are some differences between that match and this one—the final match is different.
I’ll explain those differences later, but first, let’s talk about the semi-final.
Semi-Final Score and Performances
South Africa scored 186 runs, and Australia fell short by just one run, losing their momentum in the final over.
On paper, South Africa seemed to have a stronger edge.
It’s a different matter that de Villiers could only score six runs.
This is significant because, in the previous pool match against Australia, he had scored a century.
But here, Parnell took two wickets and bowled superbly.
Imran Tahir conceded runs at an economy of 10.
Role of Spin in the Final
Spin will play a crucial role, especially when South Africa faces Pakistan in the final.
Smuts batted well, and Van Wyd, the wicketkeeper, played a great innings against India in Leeds.
These two batsmen stood out, although de Villiers couldn’t play a big innings.
Australia’s Batting Effort
Daniel Christian and Chris Lynn also batted strongly.
No Australian batsman scored a fifty, but three or four of them scored 30+ runs, contributing to a decent batting performance.
Pakistan Team Preparations
Now let’s talk about the Pakistan team.
They spent the entire day at the hotel and outside.
Some players stayed out, some remained in the hotel, and some went swimming.
There was no cricket training.
India’s Boycott and Its Effects
Although Pakistan was originally scheduled to play India today, it became clear yesterday that there would be no semi-final between them.
Some cricketers will train tomorrow.
But it won’t be a full-fledged training session because some of the players are retired and have injury histories.
Only a light session will be held if any player wants to participate.
Otherwise, they’ll either stay in the hotel or go sightseeing in Birmingham.
Difference Between Pool Match and Final
Now let me tell you what’s different in this final compared to the previous pool match.
Back when Pakistan played South Africa in Leicester, AB de Villiers did not play.
Of course, this is the final—he will not miss this match.
Both teams are evenly matched.
Let’s see which team comes out victorious.
Pakistan’s Winning Streak
I think Pakistan has an advantage because they haven’t lost a single match throughout the entire WCL.
And more importantly, if we consider the previous WCL season too, Pakistan has lost only one match in two seasons.
The team’s combination is very strong.
South Africa’s Star Batsman
South Africa, particularly AB de Villiers, is also in great form.
Though he couldn’t perform in this match, he has played brilliantly in others.
I remember when Pakistan played South Africa in Leicester, many Pakistani fans were waiting to see de Villiers bat.
It seemed like he didn’t play that match.
But this time, he’ll be on the field.
Pakistan’s Bowling Line-up
Pakistan’s bowling attack is also excellent.
I don’t know whether he will be able to play in the final or not.
All-Rounders and Team Balance
But Pakistan’s combination—batting, bowling, and fielding—is strong, especially with genuine all-rounders.
So, Pakistan’s overall balance is very solid.
The team looks great.
Opposition’s Strength
However, if one player stands firm, like their Smuts or Van Wyd, who are batting well…
And then de Villiers—if he gets going, he can pose a serious challenge for Pakistan too.
Final Thoughts and Your Opinion

On paper, my beloved team is Pakistan.
